In just 11 minutes from St. Gilgen to breathtaking panoramic views at 1,522 metres – only 350 metres from Hotel Radetzky.
The Zwölferhorn cable car is one of the most iconic attractions in the Salzkammergut. Its distinctive red and yellow gondolas have been carrying visitors to the 1,522-metre summit since 1957 – and the bottom station at Konrad-Lesiak-Platz is just a 5-minute walk from Hotel Radetzky.
Step into one of the charming red and yellow gondolas and glide upwards in just 11 minutes. As you ascend, the views unfold: Lake Wolfgang glittering below, the rooftops of St. Gilgen growing smaller, and the peaks of the Salzkammergut stretching to the horizon.
Each gondola holds up to four passengers, offering an intimate experience. The cable car is barrier-free and can be used comfortably with prams or wheelchairs. Dogs are also welcome on board.
At the top, a breathtaking 360-degree panorama awaits. On clear days you can see across the entire Salzkammergut – Lake Wolfgang, Lake Mondsee, the Schafberg, and the snow-capped peaks of the Dachstein massif in the distance.
The panorama restaurant Das Zwölfer is the perfect spot to take it all in. Enjoy regional Austrian cuisine with a view that stretches to the horizon. The sun terrace is especially popular for a leisurely lunch or afternoon coffee with homemade cakes.
The Zwölferhorn is a paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. From the summit station, well-marked trails lead through alpine meadows with wildflowers and panoramic viewpoints. The Zwölferhorn Summit Trail (approx. 3 hours round trip) is one of the most popular hikes in the region.
For thrill-seekers, the Zwölferhorn is one of Austria's best-known paragliding launch sites. Tandem flights are available for beginners – soar above Lake Wolfgang and land gently in St. Gilgen below.
In winter, the Zwölferhorn transforms into a compact but charming ski area. A handful of runs cater to beginners and families, making it the ideal spot for a relaxed day on the slopes – without the crowds of larger resorts.
Beyond skiing, the Zwölferhorn offers excellent snowshoe hiking and ski touring routes through pristine snow-covered landscapes. Winter hikers can enjoy marked trails with views over the frozen lake below. After a day in the snow, warm up with a hot chocolate at Das Zwölfer restaurant.
