From Lake Wolfgang to the Schafberg – nature, culture and adventure directly from Hotel Radetzky.
St. Gilgen lies in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Salzkammergut. Whether you want to hike, swim, experience culture or simply enjoy nature — from Hotel Radetzky you can reach everything within minutes on foot or by boat directly from our pier.
Lake Wolfgang is one of the most beautiful and clearest lakes in Austria. In summer, the turquoise water and idyllic bathing spots invite you to swim and sunbathe. Sailing, stand-up paddling and boat trips are also popular.
The Strandbad St. Gilgen — the official swimming beach on Lake Wolfgang — is just 270 metres from the hotel. The historic Lake Wolfgang boat service departs directly near our hotel: the pier is just 300 metres away. In around 20 minutes the boat takes you scenically to St. Wolfgang, from where you can continue directly to the Schafberg Railway.
Austria's steepest rack railway takes you in 35 minutes to the 1,783 metre high Schafberg. At the top, a 360-degree panorama over the Salzkammergut awaits you like no other. On a clear day you can see up to 13 lakes and the snow-capped peaks of the Dachstein massif.
Our tip: Take the boat directly from our hotel to St. Wolfgang — just 300 metres to the pier, 20 minutes by boat — and transfer directly to the Schafberg Railway there. An unforgettable day trip without your own car.
The Zwölferhorn cable car takes you to the summit in just 11 minutes in its red and yellow gondolas — with breathtaking panoramic views over Lake Wolfgang and the Salzkammergut. Bottom station: Konrad-Lesiak-Platz, St. Gilgen — just 350 metres from the hotel.
In winter there are winter hikes, ski tours and snowshoe walks. In summer, hiking trails, paragliding and the panorama restaurant Das Zwölfer invite you to stay. The cable car is barrier-free and can be used easily with prams.
The Salzkammergut offers countless hiking trails for every level — from leisurely lakeside walks to demanding summit tours. In spring, magnolias and wildflowers transform the lakeside promenades into a blooming paradise.
In winter, the nearby ski areas Postalm and Zwölferhorn attract visitors with slopes for beginners and advanced skiers — just around 10 minutes from the hotel.
St. Gilgen is not only known for its natural beauty — Anna Maria Pertl, the mother of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was born here. The Mozart House, the picturesque village centre and the charming shops invite you to explore.
In summer, concerts, markets and cultural events take place regularly. The Salzburg Festival is just 30 minutes away by car.
