Lake Wolfgangsee is one of the clearest and most beautiful lakes in the Austrian Alps. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, its turquoise waters have attracted visitors for centuries. From Hotel Radetzky, you can reach the lakeside in just a few minutes on foot — making every day a lake day.
The Strandbad St. Gilgen is the official public beach on Lake Wolfgangsee — and it is just 270 metres from Hotel Radetzky. With its crystal-clear water, large sunbathing lawns, a diving platform and a children's area, it is the perfect spot for a relaxing summer day.
The water temperature reaches up to 24 °C in summer, making it ideal for swimming. In addition to the Strandbad, there are several smaller, free-access bathing spots along the lakeshore — ask us for our personal recommendations.
The historic Wolfgangsee boat service has been connecting the lakeside villages since 1873. The pier is just 300 metres from Hotel Radetzky. In around 20 minutes, the boat takes you scenically across the turquoise lake to St. Wolfgang — the perfect starting point for the Schafberg Railway.
Choose from regular scheduled services or special themed cruises. The panoramic round trip offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and charming villages along the shore. It is also a wonderful way to reach hiking trails on the opposite side of the lake.
Lake Wolfgangsee is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Reliable thermal winds make it an excellent spot for sailing and windsurfing. Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has become hugely popular — glide across the calm morning water with the mountains reflected beneath you.
Kayaks, SUP boards and pedal boats can be rented directly at the Strandbad or at various rental stations along the shore. For a unique perspective, try a guided sunrise SUP tour — an unforgettable experience on one of Austria's most scenic lakes.
Lake Wolfgangsee stretches across 13 square kilometres between St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang. With a maximum depth of 114 metres and drinking-water quality, it is one of the purest and most beautiful lakes in the Austrian Alps.
The lake lies at 538 metres above sea level in the heart of the Salzkammergut UNESCO World Heritage region. Its mild microclimate allows magnolias, palm trees and Mediterranean plants to flourish along the shore — earning St. Gilgen its reputation as the "Riviera of the Salzkammergut".
